The Museum Reflection Scholarship encourages students to experience art, history, film, design, and culture outside the classroom and communicate what they discover through thoughtful original writing.
Applicants must personally visit at least one approved museum or cultural institution and submit an original five-page essay based on that experience.
Essays should demonstrate careful observation, personal reflection, critical thinking, and an ability to connect specific works or exhibits to broader ideas.
Scholarship awards may be offered in amounts of up to $5,000 based on the strength of the submission and the decision of the scholarship review committee.

A complete submission should satisfy each of the following requirements.
Visit an Approved Location
Personally visit at least one of the six approved museums during the scholarship period.
Provide Proof of Attendance
Include a ticket, admission confirmation, receipt, or clear photograph showing the applicant at the museum.
Submit a Five-Page Essay
The essay must include at least five full pages of original writing. A title page and bibliography do not count toward the minimum.
Follow Standard Formatting
Use a readable 12-point font, double spacing, one-inch margins, and approximately 1,250 words or more.
Analyze Three Specific Experiences
Discuss at least three artworks, objects, exhibits, films, installations, or experiences personally encountered during the visit.
Include Personal Reflection
Explain what stood out, what you learned, whether your perspective changed, and why the experience mattered.
Submit Original Work
All writing must be the applicant's own work. External research and source material should be properly credited.
Complete the Application
Submit the completed essay and required supporting materials by November 28, 2026.
Museum Reflection Essay
Choose a museum experience that challenged, inspired, surprised, or changed the way you think. Using specific works, exhibits, objects, or experiences from your visit, explain what you discovered and how the museum communicated ideas through art, design, history, culture, science, film, or storytelling.
Strong submissions combine careful observation with an authentic personal perspective. Applicants are encouraged to make meaningful connections between individual works, the museum as a whole, and their own ideas or experiences.

Essays are reviewed based on the overall quality, originality, insight, and presentation of the submission.
Insight & Analysis
Depth of thought, interpretation, and understanding of the museum experience.
Writing Quality
Organization, clarity, development, structure, and effective communication.
Originality
Authenticity, individual perspective, creativity, and personal reflection.
Presentation
Grammar, formatting, citations, attention to detail, and completion of requirements.

Do I need to visit all six museums?
No. Applicants need to visit at least one approved museum and base their essay on that experience.
Does the title page count as one of the five pages?
No. The five-page requirement refers to the main body of the essay. A title page and bibliography are separate.
What can I use as proof of my museum visit?
Examples may include an admission ticket, confirmation, receipt, or a clear photograph showing the applicant at the museum.
Can I write about more than three exhibits?
Yes. Three is the minimum. Applicants may discuss additional works or experiences when they strengthen the essay.
